Todd Balkema: Veterans Aid Attendance Program

Transcription:

Hello, my name is Tod Balkema, I’m an elder law attorney with the Jordan Balkema Elder Law Center servicing families in the northern michigan area.

As a veteran I was shocked to learn only twenty 27% of eligible veterans are actually receiving the benefits that they are entitled to.

The major benefit that can assist both veterans and their spouses paying for long-term care expenses is the aid and attendance program.

A veteran or their spouse must meet certain eligibilty requirements in order to qualify for the aid attendance program. The veteran must be 65 or older, or disabled.

There’s a financial qualification consisting of both an income test and an asset test. The veteran must have served at least one
day during a time of war and receive other than a dishonorable discharge.

In order to learn whether you’re qualified for the aid and attendance program to assist paying for nursing home expenses assisted living, adult foster care, or home care expenses, please call our office and schedule a one hour free consultation.

I look forward to hearing from you.
